Letters from A. C. Williams to Leonora Kennedy

Abstract

Albert C. Williams was born in Nevada in 1883 and lived in Austin and Tonopah, Nevada. In 1904 he worked for the Nevada Central Railroad train station, which ran from Austin to Battle Mountain, Nevada and connected to the Southern Pacific. By September of the same year, he found a new job at a bank in Tonopah. The collection contains four letters from Williams to his cousin Leonora Kennedy who lived in Florin, California.

Dick Evans Arrowsmith (1862-1954) was a rancher in Ohio and Nevada. Original letters both to and from Arrowsmith and Evans family members, especially for Dick Evans Arrowsmith. Includes news clippings and some text. Letters date from 1816-1956 and were used to write Letters from the Past + Revelations by Dick Reed; Dick Arrowsmith was Reed's grandfather.

Baumann Family Papers

Abstract

The Baumann family, originally from Ohio, consisted of five siblings, three of whom (Jacob, Sophia (Welch), and Carline) settled in Nevada in the 1870s. The collection consists primarily of correspondence to and from the Baumann siblings as well as other documents from their family. Additionally, the collection includes correspondence to John Piper of the Piper's Opera House in Virginia City, Nevada regarding booking performers for the venue.

Norman Henry Biltz Papers

Norman Biltz (1902-1973) was a developer and real estate broker in the Lake Tahoe and western Nevada regions and was also involved in Nevada politics. Mildred Breedlove Papers

Abstract

Mildred Breedlove was appointed Nevada poet laureate in 1957 and 1959 and was active in the Las Vegas Branch of National Pen Women. She organized the Nevada State Poetry Society in 1961. Included are correspondence, Breedlove's published and unpublished poetry, clippings, awards, certificates, photographs, scrapbook of published poems, and portrait painted in oils. Material between 1945-2000.

Abstract Howard Edgar Browne (1896-1990) attended the University of Nevada (1914-1918), Yale Law School, and Harvard Law School. He served as the District Attorney for Lander County, Nevada from 1922-1942, and was in private practice from 1945-1984. In 1927, Browne married Vera May Haviland, who also attended the University of Nevada. Both the Browne and the Haviland families were early settlers in northern Nevada.
