Abstract H. H. Chandler was a bookkeeper from Boston, Massachusetts who traveled from Boston to Virginia City, Nevada via Cape Horn on the steamer Champion in 1864. Collection contains first letter to "Sister Jane" [Newton], June 19, 1864, tells of Chandler's journey; his visits with Jane's husband, a mine superintendent and mining stock holder; fluctuations in mining stock prices; and descriptions of Virginia City. Abstract

Miriam Evans Richardson was born in West Liberty, Iowa in 1892 to Mell Wright and Frank Algernon Evans. Her mother, Mell, was the daughter of William Wright, better known as Dan De Quille: most well-known for his book The Big Bonanza (1876) about the famous Comstock Lode in Nevada. The collection contains photographs, clippings, and books about the Richardson family.
