Abstract The Western Basque Festival held in Reno, Nevada, June 6-7, 1959 was the first Basque Festival held in the United States and was an important source of pride for the Basque-American community. The Western Basque Festival collection consists of correspondence and records associated with the organization and operation of the festival, plus newspaper clippings about the event primarily in English and French. Western Range Association Collection

Abstract The collection is composed of photocopies of the California Range Association [name changed to Western Range Association in 1960] Bulletin and the Western Range Association Reports of the Employment Status of Contract Sheepherders. It also includes six microfilm rolls containing information about the Taylor Grazing Act, the Western Range Association and Guerra de Vascos y Vizcainos.

Thomas J. Whitby Collection

Abstract Thomas J. Whitby (1919-2003) while in the U.S. Army was posted to the Biarritz American University at the end of World War II to study foreign languages. While there he became very fond of Basque culture. The collection contains a number of photographs he took of Basque life during his stay and a booklet featuring photographs and artwork of Biarritz and Basque Culture.
