Johnson-Jeffries Prize Fight Postcard

Abstract

On July 4, 1910, in Reno, Nevada, the "Fight of the Century" boxing match took place between Jack Johnson and James "Jim" Jeffries. The collection contains one postcard sent by George W. Haigh from Reno, Nevada, to C. O. Rinehard in Seattle, Washington on July 4, 1910, right after the conclusion of the famous Johnson-Jeffries prize fight.

Jake Lawlor Scrapbook

Abstract Glenn "Jake" Lawlor (1907-1980) was a University of Nevada student where he played both football and basketball. Upon graduation, he coached sports in the northern Nevada area before returning to coach baseball and basketball at the University of Nevada. Letter from A. Livingston to the Bullion and Exchange Bank Carson City

Abstract

On January 29, 1897, Nevada Governor Reinhold Sadler signed a bill making "glove contest" prizefights legal in Nevada. Collection contains one letter written by Al Livingston to the Bullion and Exchange Bank, Carson City on May 10, 1902 stating that Livingston has given Harry Corbett, brother of former heavyweight champion Jim Corbett, a check for $1,000 for a glove contest to take place in Nevada in July 1902.
