Abstract
Leon W. Hartman (1876-1943) was a professor of Physics at the University of Nevada from 1909-1938 when he became acting president upon the resignation of President Walter E. Clark. He was inaugurated as President on December 15, 1939, serving in that capacity until his death on August 27, 1943, in Palo Alto, California. His presidential portrait was unveiled on May 7, 1945. Abstract
The Presidential Search Committee was formed in 1978, with Mary Ellen Glass as chair of the committee. Joseph N. Crowley served as interim president, and then submitted his name as candidate for the permanent position. When Crowley was not listed among the finalists, petitions were circulated by students and staff to place his name on the final list to be submitted to the Board of Regents.
