Abstract The Presidential Search Committee was formed in 1978, with Mary Ellen Glass as chair of the committee. Joseph N. Crowley served as interim president, and then submitted his name as candidate for the permanent position. When Crowley was not listed among the finalists, petitions were circulated by students and staff to place his name on the final list to be submitted to the Board of Regents.
