John Quincy Adams Papers

Abstract John Quincy Adams was born in Illinois, and learned the bricklayer trade from his father. He moved to Utah with his family in 1850; and then relocated to Carson Valley, Nevada 1853. Together with his brother Rufus he ran farming and stock-raising businesses and kept a hotel. He manufactured the brick used in construction of U. S. The Carson and Tahoe Lumber and Fluming Company was organized in 1873 with Duane L. Bliss as president and general manger and H. M. Yerington, D. O. Mills and J. A. Rigby as stockholders. It was probably the largest and most extensive lumber operation serving the mines of the Comstock.
