Getchell Library Building Records

Abstract

The Getchell Library building served as the third home for the University of Nevada, Reno's main library from 1961 until 2008. It was demolished in December 2013 to make room for the new Pennington Student Achievement Center. The collection contains materials relating to the history of the building, including specifications, remodel information, and cornerstone dedication. Additionally, the time capsule from the demolition of the building is also included.

He obtained his doctorate degree in chemistry at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and married Peggy Porter in 1965. Dr. Glick joined the chemistry faculty at Wayne State University in Detroit, where he eventually became Chair of the Department of Chemistry and published 99 research articles. Martha B. Gould was the former director of the Washoe County Libraries and an unsuccessful candidate for mayor of Reno, Nevada in 1995. The collections contains records of Gould's unsuccessful campaign for mayor and includes campaign plan, platform, press release, financial disclosure forms, donor lists, newspaper clippings, letters of support, volunteer lists, survey results, and material about opponent, Jeff Griffin (1994-1995).

Franklin Harding letter to E.S. Giles

Franklin Harding was a Nevada miner, speculator, and would-be author who was living in Topaz, California at the time he wrote this letter on July 8, 1935. Harding's letter to E.S. Giles in Goldfield, Nevada, discussed his unsuccessful Nevada mining ventures and several books he proposed to write.

The Tony Harsh Papers consist of files accumulated on subjects that came before the Reno City Council, such as the Reno train trench, referred to as the ReTract Project, the Ballardini Ranch, beautification and traffic calming plans, the Lake Mansion, as well as work with various neighborhood planning project and the Historic Resources Commission.
