Antipa Family Slide Collection

Abstract

George Alexander Antipa, his wife Edwina, and two daughters, June and Susan, frequently took trips to the Sierra Nevadas from San Francisco, California. The collection contains digital surrogates of slides of the Antipa and Fulton family members at Squaw Valley following the 1960 Winter Olympic Games as well as imgaes from around Lake Tahoe, Sutro, and Virginia City, Nevada.

Hans Muessig Photograph Collection on Julius Asher

Abstract

Julius Asher (1847-1924) was a photographer who worked in Virginia City, Nevada and San Francisco and Sacramento, California in the 1860s-1890s. Hans Muessing collected these images that were digitized by Amy Kaminski. The collection includes scans of eight Julius Asher stereographs, including scans of two versos, as well as Muessig's collected information on Asher and these images.

Baumann Family Papers

Abstract

The Baumann family, originally from Ohio, consisted of five siblings, three of whom (Jacob, Sophia (Welch), and Carline) settled in Nevada in the 1870s. The collection consists primarily of correspondence to and from the Baumann siblings as well as other documents from their family. Additionally, the collection includes correspondence to John Piper of the Piper's Opera House in Virginia City, Nevada regarding booking performers for the venue.

Ty Cobb Papers

Ty Cobb papers consist of personal papers relating to him and his family, as well as his professional role as writer and editor at the Nevada State Journal, and its successor, the Reno Gazette-Journal. Cobb had a sports column “Inside Stuff” and later a column “Cobwebs” which he continued past retirement until his death in 1997. Material between 1881-1997.

Miriam Evans Richardson was born in West Liberty, Iowa in 1892 to Mell Wright and Frank Algernon Evans. Her mother, Mell, was the daughter of William Wright, better known as Dan De Quille: most well-known for his book The Big Bonanza (1876) about the famous Comstock Lode in Nevada. The collection contains photographs, clippings, and books about the Richardson family.
