Mildred Breedlove Papers

Overview Mildred Breedlove was appointed Nevada poet laureate in 1957 and 1959 and was active in the Las Vegas Branch of National Pen Women. She organized the Nevada State Poetry Society in 1961. Included are correspondence, Breedlove's published and unpublished poetry, clippings, awards, certificates, photographs, scrapbook of published poems, and portrait painted in oils. Abstract Charles Hendel was a Nevada State Assemblyman from Mineral County, 1951-1957. Contains poems and prose by Hendel and others on many subjects. Some material appears under Hendel's pen name, Cinnabar Ike, and was previously published in Nevada newspapers. Also included are letters and essays about Mark Twain Youth Camp (Mineral County, Nevada), and proposals to bring water from the Columbia River to Nevada.
