Abstract Walter Danforth Bliss was born in Nevada on August 23, 1872, the second youngest child of Duane Leroy Bliss, Sr. and Elizabeth T. Tobey Bliss. His father co-founded the Carson and Tahoe Lumber and Fluming Company in 1873. Walter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in about 1895 and worked as a draftsman with McKim, Mead and White Architects in New York, New York, from 1895-1898.
