Abstract

Autobiographical sketch of the author and his wife Harriet L. Shober McElroy; discussion of the causes of the Civil War; and a history of San Francisco, the California gold rush, and Chinese immigration. The letter appears to have been intended for deposit in a time capsule inside the walls of the McElroy's San Francisco house.
