Letters to Ruggles from Robert Noxon Toppan, 1873-1881, discuss Toppan's activities in international bimetallism conferences and the silver question. Other letters are from New Jersey state geologist George H. Cook announcing completion of the geological survey of New Jersey, 1867; from the U.S. ambassador to France, John Meredith Read, 1869-1870; and from educator John W. Burgess related to his appointment to Columbia University Law School and a financial report written by Ruggles.
