Warren L. d'Azevedo joined the faculty of the University of Nevada in 1963. The anthropology department was initiated under joint sponsorship with the Desert Research Institute. Warren L. d'Azevedo (1920-2014) was Professor Emeritus and founder of the Anthropology Department of the University of Nev., Reno, whose studies focused on Indians of the Great Basin region of the United States, especially on the Washo Indians, and on Africa.
