Abstract In 1887, when the Hatch Act provided federal funds, the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station was created by the Board of Regents. From the beginning, there was an emphasis on experimental work and extension services. In this manuscript of her book by the same title, Patterson recounts her childhood days; married life with her rancher husband, John Malcolm Patterson, in the Lamoille, Nevada, area; descriptions of Elko, Nevada; her work as an historian and author; and the establishment of the Northeastern Nevada Historical Society.
